You’d think you could just look at what the store has and find the price. But most stores don’t have a $200 couch or even a $1,000 couch for that matter. Most sofas are over $3,500 and can go as high as $10,000 or more. The cheapest ready-to-assemble furniture is Target and costs about 100 bucks for an armless sofa. A couple of years ago there was a widely used painting of unfinished plywood with velvet paint–that also provided a discount for online customers buying unfinished sofas from Amazon.
$1000 or less: The sub-thousand dollar range is what we’d consider an inexpensive sofa.
$1000 – $2000: A mid-range priced sofa generally falls in between one to two thousand dollars.
$2000 or more: We’d consider anything above two grand to be an expensive sofa
So you can start with a bare wood and fabric cost of about $150 to make something that looks like a couch.
There are many factors that go into the purchase price:
Materials, labor, sales markets, a brand reputation which is the only one they can’t raise through advertising (in other words how much money they have). So if you were to say buy Ikea or Target quality there’s really no advantage of buying from Ikea or Target because they’re both made at the same factories and very close to each other. It all comes down to design and mostly who can put together a better offer for your money.
For instance, having legs on your coffee table.may seem trivial but an extra 10 bucks mean you pay 200 dollars instead of 190. And the longer you go down this road, the more it costs to make a difference in price. Your wallet pays for this which is why I always recommend quality is better than quantity. Because your comfort matters and also your style does too. You may find that it’s impossible to balance comfort and style but when you do, that’s where your answer will come from as well.
The actual cost of a sofa depends on material size and design:
A good quality modern sectional sofa can run $1,500 – $4,000 depending on the brand and materials used; while an upholstered contemporary sofa bed might be priced between $800 – $2,200 or even higher if it has additional features like a pull-out trundle or raised platform for extra storage space.
Do You want to buy a new Sofa?
If you want to buy the best new sofas, you’ll need to have enough money at hand because they can be pricey. A good quality modern sectional sofa can run $1,500 – $4,000 depending on the brand and materials used; while an upholstered contemporary sofa bed might be priced between $800 – $2,200 or even higher if it has additional features like a pull-out trundle or raised platform for extra storage space.
But there’s still hope! If you are looking into getting a cheap sofa that offers some choice but lacks in quality of design, then you could look at any discount store that sells secondhand sofas and refurbished living room sets. You could find a decent sofa for as low as $700, though at this price you might need to replace it in 2 years or less depending on its use. The choice is entirely up to you though. If you plan on buying a sofa for at least $1,000 or more.
